IMO 2030

Supporting the International Maritime Organisation

In 2018, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced an initial strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). The plan is to at least halve international shipping GHG emissions by 2050, while reducing carbon intensity (CO₂ emissions per tonne-mile) by at least 40% by 2030, and pursuing efforts towards 70% by 2050, relative to a 2008 baseline

Meeting Environmental Targets Together

BW Epic Kosan is committed to achieving the IMO targets as early as possible by investing in improved designs, technologies, and machinery efficiencies that increase power optimisation and lower CO₂ <="" span="">emmissons both at sea and in port.

The use of silicone hull paint, improving efficiencies related to engine performance, voyage planning and vessel speed, retrofitting power reducing technologies and optimising electrical loads are examples of some of the initiatives we have taken.

We recognise the criticality of accurate measurements and have been installing auto-logging equipment in the fleet. Live performance data is analysed and fed back to the fleet to improve operational efficiency.

BW Epic Kosan supports and encourages the IMO on its quest to reduce the environmental impact of shipping. We continue to look for areas of improvement that provide immediate benefits, as well as longer term solutions.
